James Bond ‘based on real life MI6 special agent’

London – A new history of the Secret Intelligence Service has revealed that one of James Bond’s most famous scenes was inspired by the wartime exploits of an MI6 spy.

The moment when the fictional spy emerges from the water in a wetsuit and plants explosives before unzipping the suit to reveal a spotless dinner suit really took place during the Second World War.

The scene where Bond, played by Sean Connery, emerges in his wetsuit in the 1964 movie Goldfinger was inspired by the real life exploits of Dutch agent Pieter Tazelaar, according to ‘MI6′ by Keith Jeffery, the first official history of SIS.
Tazelaar was sent in by sea in 1940 to make contact with agents in Holland.

The book recounts that he ‘put ashore at 4.35am on 23 November at Scheveningen near the seafront casino in full evening dress and smelling of alcohol, wearing a specially designed rubber oversuit to keep him dry while landing, reports the Daily Mail.

‘Rather than leaving him somewhere on the dunes, the aim was for him to be able to mingle with the crowd on the front.

‘Having landed on the beach his colleague Erik Hazelhof sprinkled a few drops of Hennessy XO brandy on him, to strengthen his party-goer’s image’.

Professor Keith Jeffery, of Queen’s University, Belfast, was given unrestricted access to the surviving historic files of the Secret Intelligence Service. But his work only covers the period up to 1949 and he was banned from revealing the identities of spies that are not already in the public domain.

The book also confirms that one of the templates for James Bond was another spy with the unpromising name of Wilfred ‘Biffy’ Dunderdale.

‘When head of the SIS Paris station in the 1930s, he had a penchant for pretty women and fast cars and has been proposed as one of the possible models for Bond,’ the book reports.

‘He was a great friend of Ian Fleming and claimed that he found parts of his own stories in the James Bond novels.’

Another model for Bond’s exploits might have been Air Commodore Lionel ‘Lousy’ Payne.

He was described in an SIS report as ‘often well informed, probably due to the fact that information is more readily obtained in bed’.

Aamir Khan to play the villain in ‘Dhoom 3′?

The expectation levels for Aamir Khan have been soaring higher with every hit he delivers at box-office. His ‘3 Idiots’ was a rage at the box-office and though the actor is now busy with the release of his next venture ‘Peepli Live’, he now intends to do something which takes him a level higher than his previous hits and is yet dynamic, different and challenging at the same time.

Reports have it that Aamir Khan is considering to work with Yash Chopra with his ambitious multi-starrer ‘Dhoom 3’ where he may play a villain with a much stylized look. Recently, Aamir met Aditya Chopra, who gave the actor a brief narration of the role in the film and Aamir apparently loved what he heard. There will be a sitting for the script narration on August 13 when he returns from Melbourne and Delhi.”

‘Dhoom 3’ has always given a new frame, recognition and identity to its villains, be it John Abraham in ‘Dhoom’ and Hrithik Roshan in ‘Dhoom 2’. If this works out with Aamir Khan, the project will be beneficial to both the makers and the star himself. The third sequel to ‘Dhoom’ will be directed by Sanjay Gandhvi.

محمد رفیع کےنام سے میوزک اکیڈمی

ہندوستان کے مایہ ناز گلوکار محمد رفیع کی تیسویں برسی کے موقع پر ان کے بیٹے شاہد رفیع نے اپنے والد کے نام سے بطور یادگار میوزک اکیڈمی قائم کرنے کا اعلان کیا ہے۔

شاہد رفیع کے مطابق یہ ان کی اور ان کے پرستاروں کی جانب سے اس عظیم گلوکار کو خراج عقیدت ہوگا۔

اکتیس جولائی کو رفیع کی تیسویں برسی ہے اور اس موقع پر ممبئی کے ایک پانچ ستارہ ہوٹل میں شاہد رفیع اپنے والد کی یاد میں ایک کنسرٹ کر رہے ہیں۔ رفیع مرحوم کے نغموں سے سجی اس شام میں انڈسٹری کے کئی بڑے فنکار شریک ہوں گے۔

شاہد رفیع کے مطابق اس میوزک اکیڈمی میں رفیع کے نغموں کی لائبریری کے علاوہ ان کی نایاب نادر تصاویر اور ان کے وہ نغمے ہوں گے جو کسی کمپنی نے کبھی ریلیز نہیں کیے۔ ’یہ میوزیم میرے والد کے پرستاروں کو ان کی یاد دلائے گا‘۔

شاہد رفیع کے مطابق وہ ایک عرصہ سے اپنے والد کی یاد میں میوزک اکاڈمی بنانا چاہتے تھے کیونکہ وہ جب بھی دنیا کےکسی کونے میں گئے ہر جگہ لوگوں نے ان سے یہی خواہش ظاہر کی۔ان کے مطابق ان کے والد کی تیسویں برسی اس کے لیے ایک صحیح وقت ہے۔

’تیرے بن‘ پر پابندی، پھر سے غور کریں‘

پاکستان میں کالعدم فلم ’تیرے بن‘ کے ہیرو اور گلوکار علی ظفر نے صدر آصف علی زرداری اور وزیراعظم یوسف رضا گیلانی سے مطالبہ کیا ہے کہ وہ فلم پر پابندی کے فیصلے پر ازسر نو غور کریں۔

کراچی میں جمعرات کو ایک پریس کانفرنس سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے انہوں نے بتایا کہ انہیں کہا گیا ہے کہ محکمہ ثقافت فلم کا جائزہ لے رہا ہے۔ ’عوام کو فیصلہ کرنے دیں عوام کا فیصلہ کبھی غلط نہیں ہوسکتا‘۔
