Hockey training camp in Faisalabad
A training camp of the Pakistan Hockey Academy (PHA) to prepare and participate in the 2nd PHF Junior Hockey League will be held from October 18 at Faisalabad Hockey Stadium in Faisalabad. The PHF has invited 31 players to attend the camp under the supervision of former Olympian Saleem Sherwani.

Faisalabad Development Trust being set up
FAISALABAD (September 25, 2010) : 'Faisalabad Development Trust' (FDT) is being established to ensure provision of quality basic facilities to the citizens and to start uplift projects regarding establishment of libraries & museum, renovation of parks, green belts and other picnic points.
The Trust would also contribute to relief and rehabilitation activities for flood affected areas of District Jhang and Chiniot. Divisional and district administration have mooted the idea of Trust and local philanthropists including representatives of Aptma, 'Young Entrepreneur Organisation (YEO), industrialists, traders and members of civil society have voluntarily decided to materialised it. The members of the Trust would generate funds for public welfare and rehabilitation of flood affectees and also ensure their transparent utilisation.
Commissioner Tahir Hussain and DCO Naseem Sadiq made this disclosure at a media conference on Friday. The Commissioner said that members of the Trust had agreed to construct 1700 homes for flood affected families of district Jhang and Chiniot and initially construction work on 200 homes was going to start very soon.

International Day of Peace Observed in Pakistan by AWAM
Faisalabad: September 22, 2010. (PCP) On 20th September 2010, Association of Women for Awareness and Motivation (AWAM) organized a seminar to mark international day of peace on the theme “Peace Building in Pakistan: Prospects, Efforts and Challenges” in collaboration with Liaison for Enforcement of Human Rights (LEHR). More than 110 Muslim and Christian participants from different schools of thought joined the seminar held at John Joseph Hall in Faisalabad. The speakers of the seminar included; Naseem Anthony (Executive Secretary-AWAM), Shazia George (Coordinator-AWAM), Suneel Malik (Executive Secretary-Peace and Human Development-PHD), Father Khalid Rasheed Asi, Nazia Sardar, Mumtaz Kousar and Afsheen Patras.
Naseem Anthony said, “It is pertinent for peace building that non-violent ways like dialogue and reconciliation rather than violent ways must be adopted to deal with the conflicts in order to build a humane, just and peaceful society.”
Father Khalid Rasheed Asi said, “There will be no religious or sectarian clash in Pakistan if people practice their own faith and respect other faiths.”
Shazia George said, “Justice is the base for building peace in the society, and social justice can only create a balanced society therefore people’s access to justice should be ensured regardless of their social status.”
Suneel Malik said, “Conflicts only arise when people do not bear the viewpoint of others, therefore there is a need to establish atmosphere of peace and respect despite religious, sectarian and ethnic differences, because survival of humanity lies in tolerance, solidarity and harmony, not in war.”
Nazia Sardar said, “We need to promote the concepts of human rights, peace and inter-faith harmony among different communities for building positive and constructive society.”
The speakers called upon the government that appropriate measures should be adopted to stop target killings and extra judicial killings; concrete steps must be taken to control inflation and subsidies on food items must be provided for relief to the poor; all political parties should adopt policy of negotiation despite political differences in order to secure the democratic system in the country; discrimination in the laws and constitution against women and religious minorities should be removed and class division must be eliminated by ensuring equal human rights for citizens regardless of any discrimination; stern action must be taken to bring an end to provocation through loud speakers, ban extremist outfits and seize the hate mongering literature in order to build the culture of peace in Pakistan; curriculum must be made free from all kinds of discrimination, prejudice and hatred, and material based on peace, human rights, tolerance and harmony should be included in the syllabus in order to create sense of respect for all human beings among students.

KRL, WAPDA, PEL, Army get victories
Four matches were decided in the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) as defending champions KRL and Wapda, PEL and Pakistan Army gained full three points at Peshawar, Faisalabad, Lahore and Rawalpindi respectively on Saturday.
KRL recorded one goal in each session to beat PAF 2-0 at Qayyum Stadium Peshawar Cantt. Samar Ishaq-led team dominated the show and gave no room to the airmen. Lanky Winger Muhammad Qasim broke the deadlock in the 37th minute as Rawalpindi-based team lead 1-0 at interval.
Other winger Kalim Ullah Khan made it 2-0 in the 62nd minute when he side stepped three markers to seal the fate of the match.
Army came out winner with last-ditch goal.The all-services clash between Navy and Army turned out to be listless affair as both teams relied too heavily on defensive tactics and moves were far and few in between at Municipal Stadium Rawalpindi. The all important goal was scored by wing full back Umar Daraz in the final minute of the game.
PMC Athletico Faisalabad failed to oppose all out pressure of 7-Time Champions Wapda at Agriculture University Ground of Faisalabad and suffered 0-3 defeat. Wapda had an easy game and they wrapped up the game within 35 minutes, scoring thrice. Skipper Arif Mehmood slammed two goals in the second and 14th minute and it was left to winger Imran Niazi to add the third in the 35th minute. Wapda led 3-0 at interval and second half remained barren.
PEL managed their first win when once again their substitute Asmat Ullah netted precious goal in the closing minutes as Lahore outfit registered 2-1 win over Sahiwal’s Young Blood at Model Town Football Academy Ground, Lahore.
PEL opened the scoring through Midfielder Muhammad Rashid in the 11th minute from the penalty-mark. FIFA Referee Rana Naseer Ahmed penalized reckless challenge of Young Blood skipper Naeem Riaz against PEL’s winger Waqas Ahmed and pointed to the spot.
Young Blood came back strongly and drew level within 45 seconds when their spearhead Asim Mansoor lifted the ball over advancing keeper Saqib Hanif.
It was 1-1 at interval and substitutes engineered PEL’s winner in the 72nd minute. Muzaffar Ali swept well flighted ball from right flank and Asmat Ullah was on hand to head it past Muzammil.

Yarn market turns sluggish due to floods
Faisalabad—Yarn market appears down as real buyers are missing. Its main reason is flood and damage to main roads between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Sindh. Dullness was seen on the yarn market, in the absence of proper interest by both the buyers and sellers. In the local yarn markets where rates of almost all the yarn brands and counts have gone down by four percent during the last 15 days. Due to flood the crisis is back on the cotton market with prices soaring to excessively high levels. This is triggering a rise in yarn prices in China, India and Pakistan, although less dramatically, as many spinners previously covered their raw material needs at lower prices. China is apparently getting a competitive advantage.
According to Ex Central Chairman All Pakistan Yarn Merchant Association Muhammad Ashraf Gandhi, the business activity was at its peak, but entire market was ruled by flood. Load shedding and increase in electricity and gas rates main reason of increase in the rate. Now in future market would be disturbed due to shortage of cotton. He expressed his views in connection with the damage to the cotton crop as a result of floods.
Cotton prices have shot up seven percent from September 6, in two week, propelled by talk that India has decided to delay cotton export of the to Pakistan. The Indian dealers constantly increasing prices of cotton and now demanding 98 cents per pound. Earlier, they were selling cotton for 78 cents. But new crop that will be harvested in November and December, Indian exporters are demanding even more: $1.05 per pound. “its panic in the market Cotton imports from India cost Rs 9,300 per maund. Cotton yarn export prices remained very firm in the past weeks in Pakistan but did not rise further, as foreign buyers expected a decline in the coming period and refrained from ordering. Polyester yarn prices did not move in the past two weeks here, while the textile production was deeply affected by devastating floods. The situation is however improving, although still far from normal.
Meanwhile, the chairman, All Pakistan Cotton Power looms Association (APCPA), Rana Muhammad Ikhlaq, has demanded steps from government to control cotton yarn prices immediately other wise price hike in future and value added sector exclusively power looms sector totally collapse.
He said that after the increase in the prices of cotton yarn, a number of small power looms units had reached on verge of closure because the exporters were not in a position to purchase cotton yarn from the market at heavy prices to fulfil their export orders. He demanded of the government to immediately impose a ban on the export of cotton to stabilise its prices and to reduce the export of cotton yarn. Chairman PTEA Khurram Mukhtar said now that leading European countries have shown willingness to accord duty free access to Pakistani exports to mitigate the trying circumstances tightening the economic viability of Pakistan. It is high time that Pakistani commerce minister and textile minister and secretaries of these ministries to visit European countries which were expressing reservations in granting duty free market access to Pakistani exports. Yarn markets and Value Added sector sources said The Government immediately ban yarn and cotton exports for further hike in cotton and yarn prices and reduction in quantity in Pakistan.—Agencies

Running on empty…
Filling stations in several districts stopped selling petrol, diesel and CNG on Sunday as a fuel shortage gripped the province.
There is a major shortage of petrol, diesel and CNG in Sialkot, where most gas stations are displaying placards and banners stating that there is no petrol or CNG available.
“We have been going to the station to get petrol for nearly two days and have tried every PSO pump we can find but they all say they are out of petrol and CNG,” said Javed, a motorcyclist.
Long queues of vehicles can be seen in and around filling stations and CNG stations in Daska, Bhopalwala, Sambrial, Uggoki, Pasrur, Satrah, Badiana, Chawinda and surrounding areas. Locals say that they have spent hours waiting for petrol in the humid weather.
In some cases, people accused owners of petrol stations of deliberately hoarding fuel. Several commuters parked their cars on the road and began chanting slogans against the government and filling station authorities. The perturbed people have urged Gujranwala division commissioner Saeed Wahala and Sialkot district coordination officer (DCO) Mujahid Sher Dil to take serious notice of the situation and order filling stations to provide fuel for commuters.
In Sargodha, several people have begun selling canisters of petrol on the black market at exorbitant prices. “I ended up purchasing three canisters of petrol from a group of men on a street corner. I paid Rs1,000 per canister,” said Allah Ditta, a van owner.
Long queues of motorcycles and cars can be seen at nearly all petrol pumps in Faisalabad. The petrol pumps is limiting the petrol it sells to Rs100 to motorcyclists and Rs300 to car owners. Shopkeepers have started selling petrol at high rates in various areas of the city. Locals have said that the district administration is not taking any action against those selling the petrol on the black market. “The authorities are doing nothing about black market sales which means that wealthy people can still drive their cars as they can afford the prices. But we can’t do anything,” said motorcycle owner Shaukat.
Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif has demanded that an inquiry be initiated into why Punjab was the worst-hit by the fuel shortage.
Sharif has written a letter to Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani protesting at the current fuel crisis in the province. He said that the province’s business, industrial and commercial sectors had been paralysed by the fuel shortage. Some estimates suggest up to fifty percent of fuel stations across Punjab have shut down operations entirely.

6 killed in oil tanker blast in Faisalabad
At least six people have been killed and over a dozen wounded in the oil tanker blast in Faisalabad, a private TV reported. The blast occurred in the tanker on GTS Chowk. Residents of the area said that tankers are regularly welded there at the workshops. Moreover, they have launched complaints with the authorities, but no action has been taken to stop this activity. Bodies and the injured have been taken to nearby hospitals; law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area.
